La Moskitia Honduras
The Alkaline Brand partners with local Honduran producers in the La Moskitia region to bring you the highest quality authentic Batana oil. The Miskito people of Honduras produce and export 100% of our Batana oil…There is no middleman. We support these communities directly and never source from 3rd parties— EVER! Every time you purchase from The Alkaline Brand, you're directly supporting the Miskito people and their community.
HARVESTING
Batana nuts come from the base of the American oil palm tree native to La Moskitia, Honduras. The tree produces small palm fruits that are hand harvested when ripe.
COLLECTING AND DRYING
Harvesters remove the outer pulp from the palm fruits revealing the hard inner nut — the Batana nut.The nuts are then sun-dried to reduce moisture and make cracking easier.
CRACKING
The hard shell of the Batana nut is then broken using a stone grinder to reach the inner kernel (the oil-rich part).
This is one of the most labor-intensive stages of Batana production — all done by hand, by the Miskito people.
RELEASING THE OIL
The kernels are roasted slowly over fire (which gives Batana its dark color & nutty smell). The kernels are then ground into paste which is kneaded and boiled to release the final product— raw Batana oil.
Our Batana oil is never cold pressed— we only offer Batana oil that is made using a traditional slow roasting extraction process used in Honduras for centuries.
AUTHENTIC BATANA OIL
Certified raw, pure, unrefined and never contains any fillers, additives, or carrier oils.
FROM THE BOAT TO YOUR DOOR
Our Batana oil is then imported into the United States and stored in our warehouse for fulfillment.
